Evaluation

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?
My media product uses the conventions of a rap video, it also challenges and subverts them. As a way of challenging rap conventions, the female is more aggressive than the male. However there is always referral back to the patriarchy that the rap genre embodies. we developed some rap conventions, which is seen in the video. The male protagonist must always have a solo in which he is talking to the camera. We used this in out video, to ensure we kept some conventions of the rap genre. This is due to our song being a rap song and challenging too many conventions may cause disruption among our target audience, it may no longer appeal to them anymore.

How effective is the combination of your main product and ancillary texts?
Both ,the main product and the ancillary texts, reflect the controversial subject that the music adopts. The images and the video correspond with the theme of the music. They both highlight the subject at hand and reveal the struggle that comes with it. the research that has been done shows that this is a subject that is something that is quite important in society.

What have you learnt from your audiences?
The audience of the rap genre is more varied than it was twenty years ago, when rap became popular. the audience used to be mostly young black boys, who could  relate to the lyrics. Now the audience has diversified and lots of different people listen to rap. Rap music has evolved, the content and the message has evolved to interest the youth of today. the youth of today might not nessecarily like the rap from 10 years ago. The age range that the rap genre is concentrated in remains the same; 16-25.

How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?
I used the internet for research, not only for our target audience but for the sensitive subject our media surrounds. I used I-movie for the very first time when creating out music video. I found that i was not very good at the editing process, so i handed that job primarily over to my team mate Abdradi. i engaged myself in market research and subject research, as well as editing when needed. The narrative of the music video was my idea, however we did not stick to the whole narrative. It changed and evolved as we went along due to many different constraints. I learned you have to be pragmatic in order to create the final product.
